October 13th marked F.I.R.S.T.’s 2nd Regional Meeting. Patrice Russell, a long-time member of F.I.R.S.T., hosted the daylong event in Bloomingdale, Georgia. Nineteen local F.I.RS.T. members gathered for a day of sharing and learning. Dr. Mary Spraker of the Emory University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology, and member of F.I.R.S.T.’s Medical Advisory Board, also attended the conference to provide information on ichthyosis to the attendees.

The day began with a morning reception and registration. Dr. Spraker discussed various aspects of ichthyosis, including treatment methods, research and new genetic findings. After a down-home southern barbeque lunch, participants had a question and answer session with Dr. Spraker, as well as an open discussion. The nine children in attendance had the chance to participate in activities including pony rides, T-shirt painting, and a puppet show.
