Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types Bi-Annual Family Conference to be held in Philadelphia
Lansdale, PA, (May 3, 2000) - The Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types, Inc. (F.I.R.S.T.) is hosting its bi-annual family conference, F.I.R.S.T. Puts Me First, on July 7, 8 & 9th at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia. Over 300 people from all over the country will join together to meet with other families and specialists who treat ichthyosis, a rare genetic skin disease.
Ichthyosis is characterized by dry, thickened and scaly skin. Dermatologists estimate that there are at least twenty varieties of ichthyosis with a wide range of severity and associated symptoms. Approximately 16,000 babies are born each year with some form of ichthyosis.
F.I.R.S.T.’s family conference will feature breakout sessions for children, teens and parents/caregivers as well as meetings with international experts who specialize in diagnosing and treating ichthyosis. A clinical screening, makeup demonstration and specialized discussions about specific forms of the disease will also be available.

F.I.R.S.T. is a national voluntary organization dedicated to helping families with the genetic skin diseases collectively called the ichthyoses.
