Basics for a Congressional Visit

Make An Appointment - Call well in advance of when you would like an appointment. Let whomever you talk to know that you live in the district and what you want to talk about. Be willing to meet with a staff member. Members rely heavily on their staff to keep them abreast of constituent concerns.

Be Prepared and be quick – Plan what you would like to discuss: introduction to ichthyosis and ask for increased medical research funding.

Personalize! – Tell your story of how ichthyosis affects you as a patient, parent, family member, friend, etc.

Bring visuals – A picture is worth a 1,000 words! Leave behind an ichthyosis fact sheet and or picture

Follow up – Send a thank you letter reiterating what you have requested and providing any additional information needed.
